"Church
finally grows up"
The Bishop of Bedford was in town on Sunday 3rd October to declare
Christchurch, Bushmead a new legal parish.
The Registrar of the Diocese of St Albans was present to witness the
signing of the documents and to celebrate with a special service followed
by a meal.
The new church was opened in January last year, but has now been through
all the legal requirements to make the new area of Bushmead a Parish
in it's own right.
Back in 1992 with the building of a new estate a new 'Conventional
District' was initially created in the area of Bushmead. Together
with these new houses four other adjoining parishes in Biscot, Stopsley,
Streatley and Round Green all gave a small number of houses to be
part of what is now the Parish of Bushmead. This now means, apart
from other things, that the church is licensed for weddings.
